King David Kalākaua - Dolman

King David Kalākaua was elected to the throne in 1874 and reigned as the last King of Hawaiʻi until his death. He is often referred to as "The Merrie Monarch" because of his support of Hawaiian music, dance, and culture. Because of King Kalākaua, hula was able to become a celebration of Hawaiian culture once again.

"Hula is the language of the heart, therefore the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people."
